Map of exporter

This application is used to display the results of the export model that was created in response to the priority objectives of the Export Strategy of the Czech Republic for the period 2012-2020. One of the key principles of the export strategy is to define priority and interest markets for Czech exporters. Export Decision Support Model (EDSM) is a multi-criteria model that identifies export opportunities for different types of goods- according to the breakdown of the Harmonized System classification (HS). EDSM selects the appropriate export opportunities based on the absorption capacity of the import market, compatibility in relation to the Czech economy and growth potential. The model takes into account the size of the import market, competitive advantage, barriers to trade, import intensity of exports, export sophistication, and other criteria.

The application can be found here (in Czech):

The methodology of EDSM is based on sequential elimination of less interesting markets. We have amended and calibrated the EDSM for the Czech Republic and created a new variable – our Index of Export Opportunities – which classifies markets depending on their suitability for export. Calibration was performed on data sample covering global trade data from 2006 until 2012. The results of the model have been used as a tool for evidence-based export promotion policy in the Czech Republic. The results were tested by the real foreign demand for Czech products in specific industries and importing countries based on information from Czech embassies and trade promotion organizations. You can find more details about the procedure of selecting interesting export opportunities in following papers: Application of the Decision Support Model to Czech Exports or The Discriminate Analysis and Relevant Model for Mapping Export Potential
